Artist’s Statement:
I have been honing and seeking my voice as an artist since I was a little girl. Being an artist is who I am to my core. I was born and raised in a small mountain valley town in Western North Carolina. Growing up, my mother recognized my passion for creating. I spent countless hours drawing and painting watercolors throughout my youth. I obtained my BFA at Appalachian State University.
Biography:
My intent with the Molecular Series is to create tangible representations of the living energy that makes me, me. Each work is a visual meditation of how my body functions and reacts.
Like the universe and beyond, our molecular structures are complex entities. The quote by Carl Sagan, “We are made of star-stuff,” struck me when I first heard it. The chemical elements that make us who we are are the same elements that are found amongst the stars. By exploring that small part of the human molecular anatomy and giving it technicolor, abstract representation, I’m expressing the inner workings of my life. The styles, colors, movement are all celebrations of my living essence. My goal with this series is to acknowledge that I’m more than this life that I’m able to perceive in our three-dimensional realm.
Through this series, I’ve found creative honesty and colorful intuition. The paintings are vulnerable expressions of my being that reveal the vibrancy of my artistic molecular anatomy.
