Exhibition Dates: january 15 - april 15
Artist’s Statement:
The works in this exhibit were all created during the recent months of quarantine (April – December, 2020). This challenging time constricted my work-related travel and forced me to channel my focus into new directions. These works, while created during an introspective and confusing time, have allowed me to recapture my long-ignored love of art and offer a glimpse into my feelings of longing and reflection.
My love of texture and color are the key aspects that connect the pieces in this collection. From modern landscapes painted from memories to abstracts created from a point of feeling, this collection is my tribute to all those dealing with adversity and hardship. By focusing on the positivity of creative change, my hope is that through some of these paintings you will feel a sense of connection, and perhaps a new understanding of the value of change.
Biography:
Born and raised in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, I am a self-taught artist with a passion for color. movement and texture. I have always enjoyed sketching and painting but when I graduated from Elon College with a degree in Business, I took a different career path. Painting became a hobby that was sometimes hard to fit into my life.
When I moved to Greensboro and started a family, my focus became pastel portraits. In recent years, especially during the quarantine, my art has shifted toward modern landscapes and abstracts. Color and texture continue to be my greatest pull, and the paintings in this exhibit offer a glimpse into how these two aspects can join to create feelings and a new perspective.
Painting has a way of taking me on a journey. Sometimes my destination is not where I aimed; sometimes the end is a lot more interesting. While the journey may be frustrating, painting has taught me not give up when the art does not turn out how I planned; but to keep pushing forward, covering and layering, because you never know where art and life will take you. I have discovered sometimes the journey is the best part.
