Reflections from the heart

An exhibit by Beve Butler Smith

Exhibition Open: October 1 - December 20, 2025
Gallery Reception: November 7, 5-7 pm

Painting has become a place of renewal and peace for me, a balance to the many years I spent in the demanding field of nursing and healthcare administration. While my career allowed me to care for others across the country, art has become the space where I care for myself — a way to slow down, breathe, and express the simple joy and beauty I find in life.

My inspiration comes from nature and from the countless places I have traveled, as well as from the farming community in North Carolina where I’ve made my home for the past two decades. Whether it’s the movement of the ocean, the hush of snowfall, or the quiet invitation of a wooded path, I try to capture those moments that remind us of God’s presence in creation.

Each painting is deeply personal, but I love when others see something of their own story in my work — a memory, a sense of peace, or a moment they hold dear. While I sometimes sell or donate paintings, my studio is a private place, a sanctuary where painting is not a profession but a passion.

To me, art is both gift and prayer — a way of pouring gratitude, hope, and serenity onto the canvas.

Artist Bio

Beve Butler Smith grew up in northern Indiana near Chicago and later built a career in nursing and healthcare administration that took her across theUnited States. After years of traveling, she chose to settle in North Carolina, drawn to its natural beauty and welcoming communities. Now living in a farming community east of Greensboro, she paints out of her home studio, focusing on the landscapes, seasons, and quiet details of nature that reflect her faith and love of simple joys. Her paintings, sometimes shared through charitable causes and community events, reflect her choice to paint for joy rather than profession.
