Emily Clare
Botanical dreamscapes
An exhibit by Emily Clare
Exhibition Open: April 1 - June 20, 2025
Gallery Reception: April 5, 2-4pm
Emily Clare’s art is also a record. Her botanical and eco prints start with pressings of native, invasive, and exotic plants she finds during evening walks around her Winston-Salem home, as well as during wooded explorations and residency excursions across the Southeast. Her marks are made with leaves and ink, not paintbrushes or pens, letting nature lead the way.
Printed in bold colors and occasionally outlined in neon, her prints seem to almost buzz, bustle, and flutter, electrically charged with energy and imploring you to take a closer look at scores of natural phenomena that are often taken for granted.
For the artist, spending time outdoors and surveying flora and fauna is a practice in mindfulness, a meditative space that breaks from the disruptions of the everyday. Printing the landscape has the same effect — a restorative, recentering undertaking that keeps her present and grounded.
Working intuitively and intentionally, Clare’s works express her connection to the environment and the importance of stewardship of the Earth’s natural resources.
